I went to the shop today to specifically buy a bottle of bleach
to mess around with. My dad thinks I have lost my mind.
Anyway, I decided to try a galaxy print collar after seeing
lots of people doing galaxy print t-shirts.
It actually wasn't that difficult.
So,
What You'll Need:
A collar (cut off an old shirt)
Bleach
Paint (fabric paint if possible)
Dry (old) Toothbrush
A tumble dryer or a hair dryer.
Pins
Sponge or spray bottle
Studs
Step One:
Cut a Collar off an old shirt
Step Two:
Pinch, Twist and Pin The Fabric
Step Three:
Next put some bleach onto the sponge or in the spray bottle.
I actually used a sock. Dab on the bleach covering all of the collar.
( I did both sides)
Don't go too mad with the bleach as you only want the colour to fade not burn a hole through it.
Leave for 5 to 10 minutes. You can leave longer depending on fabric but with some shirt
fabrics they tend to turn grey if left too long.
Then rinse the collar and pop it into the dryer for 10 mins. or use a hairdryer.
Step Four:
Now get your paint (purples, Blues and Turqoise work best)
I actually used acrylic paint , but if you plan on attaching it to a dress or top
that you will be washing regularly I suggest Fabric Paint.
Using the sponge ( or Sock) Dab on the paint just like the bleach.
You may need to leave dry and do multiple layers to build up colour.
Lastly get an old toothbrush and some watered down white paint and flick on the colour.
I would highly suggest wearing gloves for all of this. I didn't. I was a mess. So was my floor.
You may need to go back and add some colour.
When finished leave dry and
boom. job done.
I actually added 3 studs to the collar just because I had them lying around
but they are removable so you can wear the collar both ways.
Hope you enjoyed, and if you guys have any other galaxy diy jobs
leave a link below, I would love to have a look.
